「Family Album」は、自身の家族写真を複写し別の物語をつくりあげた吉川直哉の代表作である。
記憶の再構成を通じて、写真という存在のかけがえなさを 「Family Album」は見る者に伝えた。
そして吉川は、2020年初頭より家の一員となった、犬のリキを核に新たなシリーズを編み上げた。
彼の登場とほぼ時を同じくして、パンデミック・コロナが家族の日常を覆った。
「はっぴぃドッグ」、 2年半の家族のアルバム。

"Family Album" is the representative book by Naoya Yoshikawa, the photographer,
who created another story by copying and
remodeling some photos of his own family.
Through memory reconstructions, "Family Album" has conveyed to viewers the preciousness of photography.
Yoshikawa has made a new series based on the dog Riki, who became a member of the family in the early 2020 s.
It was about the same time as the COVID-19 pandemic swept through the family's daily life.
"Happy Dog" is the album of family in the past two and a half years.

2020年に上梓した写真集「Family Album」の奥付の写真で、実家を背にぼくは犬のぬいぐるみを抱いている。
それはぼくの一歳の誕生日に大伯母からプレゼントされたもので肌身離さず持っていた。名前は「はっぴぃ」。
ぼくがもう興味を示さなくなったある朝、ボロボロになった「はっぴぃ」に母は板チョコを抱かせてゴミに出した。
ぼくにはその意味がわからなかった。ぼくが４歳くらいのとき、子犬を家で飼ったことがある。父によると名前は「はっぴぃ」だった。
蚊が媒介する病気になるとかで、すぐに子犬は知人にもらわれた。坂を下る自転車の荷台の箱から「はっぴぃ」は首を出してぼくを見ていた。
独身時代の母が飼っていた犬の名前も「はっぴぃ」だった。母がちょっと目を離した隙に「はっぴぃ」は「犬取り」に拐われた。
母は必死に探したがすでに遅かった。「犬取り」は首輪だけを母に見せたという。狂犬病予防法が施行される前の話だ。
ちなみに母は戌年だった。ぼくは「Family Album」の続きを作ろうと決めた。

In a photo in the colophon of my photo book "Family Album" published in 2020, I was holding a stuffed dog in front of my parents' house. It was a gift from my great aunt on my first birthday, and I always carried it with me. His name was "Happy”.
One morning, when I was no longer interested in it, my mother put a piece of chocolate on the tattered "Happy" and took it out as trash. I did not understand what she meant by that. When I was about four years old, we had a puppy at home. According to my father, his name was "Happy”. I was told that the puppy was liable to get a mosquito-borne disease, so he was soon given to an acquaintance. “Happy" stuck his head out of a box on the back of the bicycle as the bicycle went down the hill, and was looking at me. My mother's dog when she was single was also named "Happy“. When my mother took her eyes off him for a moment, "Happy" was kidnapped by a dog thief. My mother looked for him desperately, but it was already too late. The dog thief showed her only his collar. This happened before the Rabies Prevention Law came into effect. Incidentally, my mother was born in the Year of the Dog of the Zodiac . I decided to make a continuation of "Family Album”

テグ写真ビエンナーレ 2016芸術監督。第５回日本グラフィック展協賛企業賞、第7回大理国際写真連盟主席大賞（中国）。
